South Haven, Michigan–Riveer Company is being celebrated as one of the 2021 awardees for Michigan 50 Companies to Watch, presented by Michigan Celebrates Small Business. Riveer will be honored at an awards ceremony during the 17th annual Michigan Celebrates Small Business gala event, July 20.

As a leader in Military, Aviation, and Industrial washing and water recovery systems, for 30 years Riveer Company has been helping customers keep essential equipment clean, saving them money and saving the environment at the same time. These turnkey, closed-loop systems make it easy for customers to regularly wash things like helicopters, jets, MRAPs, and gigantic dump trucks, not only expanding the life of this expensive equipment, but also supporting the safety of its operators, pilots, and drivers while helping to conserve water around the world.

The Michigan 50 Companies to Watch are known for making a substantial economic impact and have proven that with this year’s nominations totaling 559. This year has challenged businesses due to COVID-19, but many have proven to be valiant and continue to impact Michigan’s economy despite the obstacles they have faced. Out of the applicants for this year’s gala each demonstrated innovation and growth, helping their small business create change in communities around Michigan.

Companies nominated for the Michigan 50 Companies to Watch award must be second-stage companies, defined as having six to 99 full-time-equivalent employees and generating $750,000 to $50 million in annual revenue or working capital from investors or grants. Additionally, the companies must be privately held and headquartered in Michigan.

Each nominee is evaluated based off of intent and capacity to grow such as:

  • Employee or sales growth
  • Exceptional entrepreneurial leadership
  • Sustainable competitive advantage
  • Other notable factors that showcase the company’s success

Michigan Celebrates Small Business hopes to celebrate small business success in-person at the Breslin Center in East Lansing on July 20. At this time MCSB is planning for a hybrid approach to the celebration, offering a virtual and in-person experience. If an in-person gala is permitted, MCSB will comply with CDC, state and Michigan State University guidelines.

Riveer Introduces Monitor Vault for Airfield Aircraft Rinsing

South Haven, Michigan  . . .Riveer, manufacturer of aircraft rinse systems and wash carts, has introduced the Riveer Monitor Vault designed for aircraft rinse system configurations located in trafficked areas or where freeze protection is required.

Engineered to withstand the load associated with taxi-way traffic, the Riveer Monitor Vault vaults are certified to withstand the weight of the heaviest aircraft, fuel trucks, fire and rescue vehicles, meeting load requirements of modern airfield construction.  Each vault is equipped with hydraulic and mechanically operated lids for automated use and easy access.  A range of features ensure reliable operations in any environment, both humidity and temperature control are standard, with a high capacity sump system, alarms, lights, safety lock-outs and of course a Riveer automated water delivery monitor and nozzle system.

Unlike an open pit design, a closed Riveer Vault does not pose a safety issues with snow removal or field maintenance equipment,  local grade for the most stringent airfield requirements.   A close to fully operating cycle in under 30 seconds reduces waiting time for rinse operations to essentially real-time for taxi operations. No delay, no set-up, just taxi up and the nozzles raise, rinsing effectively and then retract into a heated and dehumidified dry environment until they are needed again.  This relatively fast cycle reduces FOD, airborne dirt and grime exposure, reduces UV exposure, eliminates ice and freeze damage.

The Monitor Vault is equipped with automated water delivery systems from 200-1200 GPM with highly accurate CNC operated positioning for true 3d spray control.   This results in accurate water delivery over large distances and area coverage that is accurate and repeatable.  The automated operation of the Monitor and Vault tends to itself in freezing conditions, opening when prompted and closing after rinse cycle.

Marketed to commercial and military aviation, the Riveer Monitor Vault can be engineered as an optional water delivery system on the Riveer TRS or Riveer Birdbath. The company’s initial installation is operating at the United States Air Force 316th Wing Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.

TRS Arrests Ongoing Corrosion Issues Plaguing Apache Squadron

Semarang, Indonesia Civilian fleets and military squadrons operating close to or over saltwater bodies have experienced all levels of airframe and avionics corrosion. As a result, regulations such as TM 1-1500-344-23-2 and TO 1-1-691 clarify the need for periodic aircraft rinsing and inspection. That alone, however, is not always enough. Despite their best efforts, maintenance teams of TNI-AD Skadron 11 were fighting a losing battle to corrosion on a squadron of eight AH-64E Apache helicopters stationed in a coastal environment, leading to squadron grounding.

Riveer, a manufacturer of turnkey aircraft rinse systems, visited the fleet in Semarang for an onsite examination of the corrosion, the current rinse process, and the rinse water properties. The analysis revealed that the existing rinse water contained sulfur-reducing bacteria and more than five times the allowable level of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) according to TM, TO, and NAVAIR standards. With the water containing the high-level TDS and Sulfur Reducing bacteria, maintenance crews were unknowingly rinsing their fleet with a corrosion causing agent.

“The water needs to be more than clear. It must be properly filtered and treated,” said Riveer project manager Andrew Lauten. “The regulations are a good start to corrosion mitigation, but you need to be cognizant of the rinse water properties. That’s why our systems include water treatment as well as delivery.”

The squadron installed the Riveer Tactical Rinse System, which produces rinse water quality that exceeds TM 1-1500-344-23-2, TO 1-1-691 requirements by a factor of 10x, plus many other features:

  • Onboard filtration of dirty base water and reduce TDS, Sulfur Reducing Bacteria through Ion Exchange, Carbon Media, Reverse Osmosis and Ozone
  • Airframe Specific Rinse Programs- Pilot activated rinse programs adjust water cannon aim, pressure, flow rate, and nozzle pattern based on airframe type to ensure coverage of contaminant collection areas while avoiding direct flow to sensitive areas such as intakes, exhaust, and PNVS units.
  • Active Wind Correction- Adaptive rinse program adjusts nozzle aim, flow rate, and nozzle pattern using wind direction and speed data collected from an onboard weather station. Ensures spray accuracy and airframe coverage rates in breeze up to 25 knots.
  • Water Recycling- TRS recovers up to 80% of rinse water and recycles through carbon media, sand media, and absolute filtration to remove trace heavy metals, dissolved solids, and oils to enable reuse of rinse water.
  • Deployable Configuration- The TRS is configured in an above-ground design to minimize site infrastructure requirements and expedite implementation.

The squadron now has airworthy aircraft and has resumed normal flight operations. Other locations using Riveer TRS Technology include Indonesian Army Aviation TNI-AD Skadron 21-Jakarta, ID (Bell 412, CASA CN235); United Arab Emirates, Joint Aviation Command- (AH-64D, CH-47); US Army SOCOM Hunter AAF- Savannah, GA (CH-47, UH-60 Blackhawk).
